Alex Maxwell channels big pop ambitions on "Letting You Know"
As the first signing to Hollywood Records, Alex Maxwell continues to subvert expectations with another grown-up banger.
"Letting You Know" finds the London-born 22-year-old flourishing against a backdrop of electro-pop tinged and fully fleshed out goodness. The track is actually a co-write with Max McElligott from Wolf Gang (who, to be fair, were a fine band that shoulda made it but didn't). McElligott joins a pretty impressive cast list for Maxwell's debut EP, due in October, which includes Carey Willetts (Athlete), The Flight and Dan Grech-Marguerat (Radiohead, Tom Odell, Wolf Alice).
"The song is about letting go of bad habits," Maxwell tells us. "It is a song about empowerment, about facing your demons and having faith in your own strength."
"I grew up influenced by strong women such as Patti Smith, Debbie Harry and Grace Slick. I consider them my role models. They were a big part of the inspiration behind the song and the video
