Listen: Afterparty - "Retro"
Andreas Szego, an over thirty Stockholm-bound man with a passion for synthesisers and keyboards, decided that in his pre-midlife crisis in which he started off his little Swedish family that he was going to also initiate his musical career.
So here comes Afterparty, which Szego says creates “music for the afterlife”; music to be played after your years of youth. Szego has been releasing a number of tracks under this moniker, and they all have a nostalgic and slightly sad flavour to them. His latest release, “Retro”, is not too dissimilar to this description. The track of course looks back with wistful eyes to the sounds and atmospheres of 80s electro, with a warm, sentimental yearning for the cinematic sound of Jean Michel Jarre and Giorgio Moroder. The nursery rhyme-like lyrics are sternly sung by a Karin Dreijer Andersson (Fever Ray) replica, which, set against the monumental electronic orchestration, choral voices and woodwinds, sounds simply epic.
