Listen: A Weekend At The Feelies - "Lowly Buzzard"
As the elusive and atmospheric brainchild of singer Jordan Campbell, Seattle’s A Weekend At The Feelies have a subtle, intriguing buzz about them, and current release “Lowly Buzzard” only serves to further this interest.
Arranged amidst a languid, hazy back drop of echoed-out percussion, Campbell’s drifting vocals are in turn both sighed in apathy and delivered, in harmony with spirited synths, with a spaced-out yet lively surge of energy. Despite swooning instrumentation that ebbs from stripped back, simplistic percussion to animated, upbeat keys, “Lowly Buzzard” just holds back from becoming too swelling or engulfing, instead keeping hold of a somewhat intangible and alluring feel to both the song as a single entity and what Campell has planned for further releases.
“Lowly Buzzard” is a sun drenched, yet passively wistful paean to forgoing any kind of hastiness or rush, instead preferring to focus on a sound that evokes clear skies, long journeys on open roads and spending time actually appreciating it rather than attempting to fill in the hours.
Chasing Silk EP is released on 27 May.
