A. Dyjecinski is in the woods
One of the first times we at Best Fit saw Artur Dyjecinski he was crooning Timber Timbre’s "Demon Host" alongside The Wilderness of Manitoba in the woods at End of The Road.
Hailing from Nananaimo, BC, but having called London home for over five years, where he has been playing with Magic and Fur, and more recently as the frontman of Cramps-loving London noise punks Dracula Legs. Over the years Artur has contributed to the annual Ho! Ho! Ho! Canada compilations, but this week sees his first official release as a solo artist, under the name A. Dyjecinski.
"I’m The Woods", released this week on Label Fandango, is a world away from the chaotic whirr of Dracula Legs. Slow burning and minimal, gently plucked guitar and drums frame his elegantly wounded tenor croon. As it progresses, the track gradually cracks and creeps to a fuzzy, euphoric peak, before once again slinking back into the shadows. Lyrically, Dyjecinski focuses on the idea of trying, and failing, to find solitude. “I went on a journey to see how remote I could live, how much solitude I could find.” He explains. “The concept of trying to be lonely doesn’t register with many people. To be lonely has so much negative connotation. But what if you can’t be lonely? What if no matter how hard you try, there is someone there; people everywhere, and no matter how far out you go, there is someone further, or simply in your mind.”
Dyjecinski will be joined by a full band to play a single release show at Servant Jazz Quarters on 30 July. Support comes from fellow Ho! Ho! Ho! Canada alumnus Zachary Lucky.
