Coventry noisemakers FEET are back with the affirmative "Backseat Driver"
The fivesome deliver their hotly anticipated second single in the wake of the bolshy swagger of "Petty Thieving", which was released as a 7” via Felix White’s (The Maccabees) YALA Records late last year.
Recoiling some of their explosive, pent-up energy, "Backseat Driver" deploys a more leisurely pace, trading in their Parquet Courts-style sound for retrospective echoes of The Cribs along the way.
Their anecdotal tales ("Petty Thieving" talks of being skint and spending all your student loan on “beer and biscuits”) take an unprecedentedly sentimental turn, vocalist Jeep reciting the galvanizing mantra “It’s not a pursuit of death, it’s a pursuit of life. You only got one take, you can’t do that twice” with increasing tenacity, before the pummel of drums and clamouring guitars end the respite and threaten to devour his words.
The track is accompanied by a colourfully animated video created by Jeep, himself an illustrator who puts his hands to all of the band’s artwork. “Jeep studies animation and illustration at uni so it’s a two birds one stoner job” add the band. “The animation connects to the lyrics and pays homage to our guitarist Callum's problematic road rage, which is as hilarious as it is terrifying."
