There’s not that much information out there on Doss, apart from her music. We know she’s from the US, Grimes is a fan, she has a penchant for the 90s and before this EP she remixed How To Dress Well’s ‘& It Was U’ and Wildarms’ Full Hearts. But the mystery works towards the focus on her brilliant music.
Playing on the over-used and eye-rolling term ‘EDM’, the self-titled EP is tagged “Emotional Dance Music” and that’s a pretty apt description. There’s a magical atmosphere to it, transporting you to a world in which Mario Kart’s Rainbow Road exists and the clouds are made of candyfloss. Experimenting with chillout, garage and trip-hop – it’s throwback but not pastiche, her voice enchantingly whispering over each track, occasionally hiccupping.
