Album Stream: Flamingods – Sun [Best Fit Premiere]
In a modern world where electronic music is largely the vogue, it’s easy to forget how much there is to continue to be excited by in terms of traditional instrumentation. Even ol’ Jimmy Page has spoken of his reservations in what there is left for him to discover on the humble guitar. Good thing, then, that bands like Flamingods come along every so often to remind us how much there still remains to delve into.
Combining elements of afro-beat, post-rock, as well as more electro-leaning psych and drone, the London-via-Bahrain fivepiece blend world music with pop tinges in a confident and coherent fashion. Their debut album, available to stream below, is as much of an education as it is a thing of bewildered enjoyment. I mean, we had no clue a “Taishōgoto” was a sort of Japanese harp until the band went and named a song after it.
