The Gold Setting share ode to web celebrity “Video Star”
“Video Star” is the new track from New York-based outfit The Gold Setting, channelling nostalgic soul with a modern twist.
Referencing Tina Turner as a major inspiration, frontwoman Liza Colby follows in the footsteps of many classic vocalists with her full, rich sound. “Video Star” allows the listener to luxuriate in the warm familiarity of her voice, with its handclaps and electric organs acting as complements rather than competition for centre stage.
Colby describes the track as a “homage to the past in being a good girl in public and bad girl in the bedroom, and also a head nod to the present with all the social media video: Instagram, Snapchat, internet.” It’s about “wanting the one you like to watch you, and still [being] a 2017 web celeb."
