Lizzo announces Yitty binder tops and tucking thongs to coincide with International Transgender Day of Visibility
Lizzo launches a range of gender affirming underwear to make her brand Yitty more inclusive of trans and non-binary people.
Yesterday on Instagram, Lizzo shared a series of photos of her new gender-inclusive line modelled by trans and non-binary people with the caption: "Introducing… YOUR SKIN by YITTY. Gender affirming shapewear for people of all gender identities. You deserve to feel like you. You deserve to feel good in Your Skin."
Lizzo has always been very vocal about her support of the LGBTQ+ community, and this release – which coincides with International Transgender Day of Visibility – is a result of Lizzo watching "countless videos of people crafting their own garments so their body can truly feel like theirs."
In a statement from YITTY, they note that that the Binder Top and Tucking Thong have been in the making for two years and have undergone extensive testing, with community feedback being taken into account. "It is our mission to continue serving all bodies, which is why these core styles will always be available at YITTY, starting late summer 2023."
"When we say we support every body, we mean it. We believe in radical self-love for people of all gender identities—including the trans, non-binary, gender-fluid and gender non-conforming communities that have been chronically underserved. So, we decided to take our expertise and create styles that serve those very same communities," the statement continues.
In 2022, Lizzo set up YITTY in collaboration with Fabletics. Made in sizes that range from 6X to XS, the company is a body-positive, and prioritises comfort. In a statement announcing YITTY, Lizzo wrote: "This is a love letter to my big grrrls, and a welcome letter to Every Body." She added: "I’m tired of discomfort being synonymous with sexy."
