Track By Track: Ritual on their Every Night Another But Not You EP
London-based electronic trio Ritual talk us through their darkly fascinating new EP, Every Night Another But Not You.
Cinnamon
"Cinnamon" was the first track we released this year, so we wanted to make a statement sonically. We're always looking for way to push the envelope with production and vocals and this is a track we're really proud of. We want to create a world you can get lost in. The lyrics are about lust and addiction, the things that you crave, even when you know they'll destroy you.
The Only One
"The Only One" was another step for us in pushing the boundaries of tempos and grooves that we could explore. It's a song about being with someone who doesn't know how to let people in and trust others. We were really blown away with Skizzy [Mars]'s verse - we were fans of his from afar. When he sent this verse in we were buzzing.
Bottle Tops
"Bottle Tops" is one of our most personal songs to date. It's a difficult song to talk too much about. The opening line - "Bottle tops, I've got enough to fill my pockets" - came from being in a dark place and drinking too much to get through it: putting the bottle tops in your pocket and counting them the next day to realise how many you'd actually had. It's not easy to love and support someone who's in that space and the song is about that as much as anything.
Amen
"Amen" is a song that could mean something different for each person who hears it. To us it's about finding something or someone to believe in, whatever or whoever that may be. The opening line is "You were always one for doubting / Said it's your form of believing." It's about finding someone in your life that can almost become your religion, your strength and truth.
