Track By Track: Fletcher on her debut EP

10 November 2016, 23:15

New York based singer-songwriter and pop phenomenon Fletcher recently unleashed her debut EP Finding Fletcher into the world. In the six-track release she invites us on a musical journey through her own life. Featuring the unwavering anthem of viral smash “War Paint”, Fletcher talked to us about the individual stories behind each track.

Princess

It's my most personal record, and my personal favourite. I wrote "Princess" during a time in my life when a lot of females around me who I loved and admired were going through some difficult times and I was as well. It was a message I really needed to hear. I also felt that the people around needed to be reminded that we need these difficult times in life because they make us stronger, and they are what make each of us unique, individual and human. It’s a song about holding your head high and embracing all of the hard shit life throws your way because it builds character and we come out the other side as stronger women.

War Paint

This song started everything for me. I'm so fortunate that "War Paint" can be my anthem, and an anthem for others. Regardless of how difficult something may be, if its something you stand by, then you should always stand up for it. This song is about fighting for what you want and fighting for who or what you love because “love is not the enemy."

Over My Head

"Over My Head" is about that feeling you get when you realize you're falling hard for someone and you seem to be way in over your head about it. It’s a feeling that you have no control over, similar to a drug addiction. You can't hit it and quit it that easily.

Avalanche

Similar to the way a new relationship is, an avalanche is something that is dangerously beautiful. It’s beyond scary to experience, but the reward of love is so worth it. This song expresses my falling in love with someone who I knew was feeling what I was feeling, but refused to acknowledge those emotions. It was my way of convincing this person to be more vulnerable, to let go of any hesitance and to allow themselves to fall as fast and hard as I was.

Wasted Youth

"Wasted Youth" is about wasting time with someone just because you can, and it feels right at the time. Not all relationships are meant to last forever and sometimes you know that they won’t, but that doesn’t mean it holds no value to your life or your immediate happiness or desire. It’s a song about living in the now of a relationship with someone you love even if its not meant to be a forever thing.

Live Young Die Free

I wrote this fun one with R. City about taking risks to get the most out of this crazy world. This song captures my free spirit and encourages other to do whatever it is they want in life regardless of age or time. It’s never too late to try something new, or do something one always wanted to.

Finding Fletcher is out now.
