Martha, Palehound, Frankie Cosmos & Tacocat on their favourite Bob's Burgers character
To celebrate the Sub Pop release of The Bob’s Burgers Music Album, bringing together the 107 songs from the shows' impressive musical pedigree (guests have ranged from St. Vincent, to the National, Låpsley and Stephen Merritt), these four artists choose their favourite Belcher.
[Spoiler: Linda scores highly.]

Picking my favorite character from Bob's Burgers was NOT easy but I've gotta say Linda. Obviously every character is brilliant but to be honest Linda just reminds me so much of my own mom that I feel like I have a built in unconditional love for her. Like my mom, Linda is hip enough to know when she's embarrassing her kids and seems to make a parody out of herself. My favorite scene from the show, which replays in my head every once in a while and I always feel the strong urge to quote out loud, is when the restaurant is hosting Tina's birthday party and Linda hits the dance floor and starts shaking her butt and yelling "Tina, dance with Mommy!". That is something my own mom has done to humiliate me so many times!

It’s really hard to pick a favourite Bob’s Burgers character because they’re all so great. I was tempted to go for Teddy as he maybe doesn’t get as much attention not being a main character, or the roller skates guy who hints at being vegan, queer and sober (not consistently I still love it). BUT I have to go for Linda, She’s the character I feel the strongest affinity with. I love how unwaveringly loving and caring she is. She’s always looking out for the kids with this great balance between supporting and going along with their bullshit but also not taking any bullshit when she doesn’t want to either. I just think she’s great. I also love how much she loves Bob. She just think he’s great and it’s so sweet, he’s such a grumbly, mopey git really and she’s the perfect juxtaposition being so excitable and posi and constantly letting him know how sexy she finds him all the time. What a legend. The main reason I love her the most though is because of the episode where she makes reference to Bob having to take away her credit card away because she was buying too many porcelain babies off the internet. It cuts to her singing a little song that goes ‘If you’re not real, why do I feel this way… little babies!’ then she kisses them all on the heads. I fully relate to her there, as someone can make intense connections with inanimate objects for no real reason and who gets immense joy from collecting cute shite.
Emily Nokes - Tacocat
Linda Belcher is my current favorite character. I initially didn't love her—her personality is SO over the top it's kind of hard to even like her sometimes—but she's real positive and so utterly bizarre she won me over. That voice omg. She's intense, she sings loudly and off key, she's an obnoxiously loving mother, she takes Bob's sour attitude and the general unsuccessfulness of the restaurant in stride, she's super into drinking wine (and is therefore tipsy a lot), she loves dancing, she likes bad puns, she's obsessive, she's aggressively herself...
Favourite moment? Hmm. It's sort of hard to remember them all / choose one moment, but I recently watched the episode "Grand Mama-pest Hotel" so that sticks in my mind. Basically, Linda becomes worried / jealous about Tina making a new and possibly "bad" friend her own age (for once) at a mother / daughter overnight trip to meet an astronaut. In an attempt to prove she can be "fun" and "cool," Linda squirts soap into the hotel water fountain (plus a bunch of other mortifying stunts to win her daughter's attention), gets kicked out, and later returns in a disguise that is a bikini-body shirt and a shower cap.
Greta Kline - Frankie Cosmos
I don't know if I really love Jimmy Jr. but I love the way Tina feels about him, which makes him a great character. He's the Romeo to Tina's Juliet. He is the son of her father's nemesis, but he's also really uncool and she can't understand why she likes him....except for his butt. I totally get it.
