Hôy la on accepting your feelings are valid in a time of isolation
Norwegian artist Hôy la writes about releasing "ice02", a song that details "an agony for death, in a time of agony for death".
A few weeks ago I released a new single “ice02”, which revolves around my agony for death. I still can’t figure out if it was totally inappropriate or very relevant. We live in a time where the coronavirus has made me flicker every time I see people touch or hug in a movie. The enormous information flow, and growing number of deaths, together with social isolation and a tremendous level of uncertainty, has a made it clear how this situation also has a major effect on our mental state of mind.
And I’ve been thinking a lot (obviously...) and I’ve understood through all the messages and feedback I’ve got for “ice02” that it's such a crucial time to be honest and open about such dark thoughts, anxiety and our mental health.
Being trapped in isolation, forced into unemployment, being socially disconnected are major triggers for a lot of people, including me. Therefore, I’ve decided to dedicate this text to telling you this: it's okay to feel shitty, depressive, anxious and lonely right now.
Actually, I think it’s a good time to be honest about your state of mind, to tell your friends and family how you are struggling or have been struggling for years. Because it seems like people have an overload and extra energy for love, listening and caring for one another.
And in this surreal situation the world is experiencing at the moment, I think it’s beyond important to care—of course for the ones directly affected—but also for the most mentally vulnerable. Share your affection and praise. And listen to your loved ones. They might be scared but let them know it's okay and they’re not alone.
I hope you feel the same way about “ice02” and the importance about its emotional confrontation.
