What we want from the Stranger Things season two soundtrack

06 February 2017, 10:00

Stranger Things season two is coming and we're hella excited - here's what we want to hear in the next instalment.

The new trailer dropped recently and the Michael Jackson remix just kills:

The new series of the smash hit show is coming this Halloween. We obviously want to hear lots more from S U R V I V E - their nostalgic, John Carpenter-y noises are simply perfect for the show - but we also wanna hear some more great selections. "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" is an entirely new song for a whole generation - the folks behind Stranger Things can certainly pick a tune. Maybe there's a prolific DJ career down the line... but if they need a hand, here are some suggestions.

Bruce Springsteen - "Dancing In The Dark"

Dancing? In the dark? Retro synths, drum smashes galore, and the appeal of The Boss in small-town Indiana. There's some excellent potential for dramatic irony here.

Depeche Mode - "People Are People"

Eleven definitely isn't gone for good, is she? She just can't be. So when she inevitably returns and she and Lucas fall out again, this is an ideal backdrop.

The Cure - "Close To Me"

The Cure can be dark indeed, but maybe they can soundtrack a hormone-charged moment between Steve and Nancy? Or, perhaps, Jonathan and Nancy? Perhaps Robert Smith & Co. are bit gothic for the high school jock, but the reclusive photographer? He'd surely be into it.

David Bowie - "Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)"

Excellent montage potential. Stranger Things is just full of literal scary monsters and metaphorical super creeps.

Siouxsie and The Banshees - "Painted Bird"

Broody, shadowy, powerful, dangerous... this would be a great choice for when we get justice for Barb.

The Smiths - "This Charming Man"

There are lots of very, very un-charming men in the world of Stranger Things, aren't there?

Eurythmics - "Whos' That Girl?"

There's room to play here, but the sinister synths can't be ignored. Maybe the Stranger Things team could go super literal and use it in a romantic plotline? It'd be a nice juxtaposition during a chase/hunt scene too... one thing's certain, Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart shouldn't be left off the OST.

R.E.M. - "So. Central Rain"

R.E.M. have helped generations of misfits, and this is an excellent song for Will - now he's back, something's clearly wrong. Does he stay, or does he go?

Rockwell - "Somebody's Watching Me"

Eerie funk and gigantic dance-pop converge on this Halloween staple. Good jam to get our heroes pumped for battle. Or could we retroactively shove it into the bit where Jonathan spies on Nancy, Barb, Steve, et al.?

Talking Heads - "This Must Be The Place"

A bit too literal? Nah. If there's a rare moment of happiness or solace for Joyce, then we'd like to think she'd listen to this.

Stranger Things returns in 2017. We're counting down the days already.
