Watch: TLOBF meets The War On Drugs
‘Critically acclaimed’. A phrase that’s bandied about on a daily basis but rarely justified. As far as The War On Drugs are concerned, however, the response surrounding their second album Slave Ambient (released last month via Secretly Canadian) has been nothing short of staggering. Only causing minor ripples with 2008′s impressive debut Wagonwheel Blues, however richly deserved – nobody was expecting the universal praise that has shrouded this latest release. Returning to the UK after three years, the Philadelphia based quartet – led by Adam Granduciel – played to a sold out Cargo two weeks ago. Their biggest UK show to date, the band oozed a confidence and brutal belief in their craft that left the 300 strong crowd utterly captivated. After a jaunt around the UK and Europe, The War On Drugs return to the capital tonight for yet another sold out show at London’s Corsica Studios.
On the day of the aforementioned Cargo show, we caught up with Granduciel for an informal chat about the creation of Slave Ambient. Sticking around for the entire day, the footage below takes a glimpse of a day-in-the-life of The War On Drugs, including footage from the soundcheck and three songs from their electrifying performance: ‘Arms Like Boulders’, ‘Your Love Is Calling My Name’ and ‘Come To The City’.
