TLOBF Interview :: The Tupolev Ghost meet Wintermute
Aha! Yes! The reverse of our interview last week where the guys from Wintermute interviewed Mr. Parrish of The Tupolev Ghost. As their tour continues across the UK, they play Cambridge tonight (which is going to be great), we get the guys from The Tupolev Ghost to interview Dan from Wintermute… chaos ensues…
To give you a taster of their style, we’ve got a track each from The Tupolev Ghost and Wintermute to giveaway. Though, if I was you, I’d do yourself a favour and just catch these guys live.

1. You’re from Leeds, a lot of good bands are from Leeds, is there something in the water? Also, you all eat differently by default. Will you be eating any bread cakes while we’re on tour?
There most definitely is something in the water, some kind of magic juju. Though there are plenty of bad bands in Leeds as well. I imagine we’ll be sharing at least one bread cake between us per day on tour, thats about the average.
2. There is also a band called Wintermute from Sweden. MySpace says they are a contemporary mix of Alternative / Electronica stylings. Have you knowingly plagiarised any of their songs yet?
The Swedish Wintermute is in fact us as well. We really wanted a side project kind of thing, but liked the name Wintermute too much. So we just released our electronica material under the same name but pretended we were in a different country. Genius no?
3. As well as the Swedes, there are another 51 Wintermutes on MySpace. Would you be interested in being on a 4 CD compilation called “Wintermute” with a track by each artist?
The thing is, they are all us… and i can’t imagine anyone wanting to listen to a whole 4 tracks of our material. What a disgusting thought.
4. The artwork to your debut album is fantastic. Who designed it?
Jay Cover of the Leeds based Nous Vous collective (www.nousvous.eu). He’s done all our stuff and is an actual magician.
5. You’re about to go on tour with us and I hope you know what you’re letting yourself in for. You’ve toured before though, apart from your hometown, where has been your favourite place to play?
Generally we’ve found that the more north you go, the better the crowds are. Aberdeen was brilliant on our last tour. Of course its not always the case. I think we had a good gig in Swindon once.
6. Which bands are favourites of Wintermute but ones that we’d never be able to tell from the sound of your own music?
Good god man, what a question. Christ we listen to so much i think thats impossbile to answer. We all have such different tastes as well, er… Lionel Ritchie, Earth Wind & Fire, Marvin Gaye, Booka Shade, Junior Boys… god knows!
7. Do your parents like your band? Do they play your band to their friends when they have their mates round?
I don’t think so. They kind of view the music with a strong mix of confusion and fear.
8. Do your grandparents like your band? I guess most of their mates are dead.
My Gran likes your band.
9. You’ve been on tour with our new bassist Ross before. On our last one, he slept in a cupboard and a graveyard after failing to seal the deal with an Irish friend of his. Can you tell us another story from his past that he doesn’t want us to know?
On the tour we did with SS, Ross picked up the nickname “WILD-MAN”. We’d been caught short after soundcheck and we were all starving when grumbling to himself, Ross dissapeared into a nearby alley. When we went looking for him later we found him huddled between two bins eating a raw dead cat. Apparantly he’d killed it himself and that it “wasn’t a big deal” and “he does it all the time in Brid”.
10. And, most importantly, who are you backing? Peter or Jordan?
I don’t understand this question i’m afraid. Is it a sports question? The one with the nicest kit.
