After Hours: Tapes 'N Tapes
Tapes ‘N Tapes have returned with their sophomore album. Whilst not quite hitting the heights of their debut, their twisted and slewed pop music has been amusing us at TLOBF Towers for some time. We caught up with their drummer, Jeremy Hanson to find out what he’s been upto recently outside of band practice…
Who’s your favourite new band at the moment? Tell us a bit about them.
My favorite new band at the moment is Sarah Johnson. They are a noisy band from Minneapolis, MN. It consists of drums, guitar and a vocal/sampler/guitar/bass player. They can “bring the noise.”
What’s been the best album you’ve heard in the last 12 months?
The best album I’ve heard in the last 12 months is Paul Simon, “The Rhythm of the Saints.”
What was the last book you read? Would you recommend it?
The last book I read was “The Autobiography of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” I would not only recommend it, but demand that everyone read it. This book really moved me.
What was the last film your saw in the cinema and was it any good?
The last film I’ve seen in the cinema was Sweeney Todd and my girlfriend and I walked out when Johnny Depp started singing to his blades.
If push came to shove, what’s your all-time favourite song and why?
Well, if push came to shove, my favourite song would be either “The Obvious Child” by Paul Simon or “I Won’t Back Down” by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. I am forced to pick these two because I listen to them over and over again and again and over again.
MP3 / CD / Vinyl: what’s your format of choice?
Vinyl.
What’s the best TV show you’re currently following?
I honestly don’t watch the television.
What one piece of criticism has stuck in your mind and was it justified?
When I used to play the drums in a band with my brother and my dad (Hanson Blues Trio), they told me that I needed to play harder. I started that day and have been playing hard for the last 11 years. Totally justified.
What one thing has caused you to waste your free time in the past 6 months?
I never waste my free time.
Do you follow any type of sport? If so, who’s your “home team”?
I don’t follow any sports and I never have. I faked following sports when I played flag football (American football) in middle school. At dinner one Monday evening, I asked my family if we could watch Monday night Football and they sort of laughed. They knew that I had no real interest. I love to play the drums, not getting hurt.
What’s your poison?
Really good coffee from Kopplins in Saint Paul, MN. I go there way too often.
We’d like you to make us a mix-tape. Pick five tracks with a theme of your choice.
