We’ve already told you how much we love Hawnay Troof’s new album, so we thought it was about time we got the brains behind it Vice Cooler to answer out After Hours questions. Judging on his answers he could possibly be my new best friend or something. He loves Weeds, cookies and fried foods. Plus he hates sports. It’s like we were seperated at birth or something.

His album, Islands of Ayle is out now on Southern Records.

Who’s your favourite new band at the moment? Tell us a bit about them.
I’ve been really into the Chipmunks Xmas album lately. Those songs are so good and the production rules. One of my favorite records about my favorite holiday!

What’s been the best album you’ve heard in the last 12 months?
This band Bleachy Bleachy Bleach are two really young girls from the suburbs of Oakland. They recorded this album that is totally insane and sorta like an even MORE fucked up Cobra Killer. Also Barr’s Summary I have listened to a lot in the past 12 months.

What was the last book you read? Would you recommend it?
I’m in the middle of reading David Lee Roth’s “Crazy From The Heat”. Before that I got into a GNR phase and read Slash’s austobiography at the same time as their 33 1/3 book about Use Your Illusion. On the 4th July I played a party in LA that was in an actual studio that Axl camped out in during the recording of that record. Fucking blew my mind.

What was the last film your saw in the cinema and was it any good?
Sex In The City. I went with all of my girlfriends who are obsessed with it. The movie bummed me out. But I did enjoy seeing it with them and enjoyed their company/reactions.

If push came to shove, what’s your all-time favourite song and why?
That’s like me having children and having to choose which one I like the best. Too hard. I don’t even think a favorite anything exists. Nothing is better than the other things that I like…

MP3 / CD / Vinyl: what’s your format of choice?
Actually my favourite format is DVD! But behind that is mp3 and vinyl, then cd’s which I hate.

What’s the best TV show you’re currently following?
Weeds. Though this season is not holding my interest. They ran out of steam. Though it’s not on a new season, I’m REALLY into LOST.

What one piece of criticism has stuck in your mind and was it justified?
I get a lot of good criticism and a LOT of bad criticism. Either one can really fuck with your head if you let it. I try to avoid reading things because I don’t need my ego more inflated OR deflated, its balanced pretty well at the moment. People can be really harsh and mean when they are behind a computer. I think they forget that people work really hard and have feelings and are real people. This could also apply to the good criticism. No musician is super human or like, worth replacing a childhood comic book fetish with a musician to come across as more “mature”.

What one thing has caused you to waste your free time in the past 6 months?
The internet.

Do you follow any type of sport? If so, who’s your “home team”?
Sport really, really bores me. I don’t understand the appeal. But I’m sure sports fan don’t understand my fascination withh free jazz music. So it works out.

What’s your poison?
Cookies and fried foods.

We’d like you to make us a mix-tape. Pick five tracks with a theme of your choice.
My I tune Top 5
1. Barr “The Song Is The Single”
2. High Places “Head Spins”
3. Deerhoof “New Sneakers”
4. Daniel Johnston “Living Life”
5. Sean Kingston “Beautiful Girls”
