Having released one of the most fresh and adrenaline fuelled debuts for some time with their Weirdo Rippers album last year, No Age have signed to Sub Pop and ready their follow up. We tracked down Dean Spunt to find out what makes him, and the band, tick… well, kinda…

1. Describe your sound in 3 words.

2. What was the first record you ever bought? And where did you buy it?
A 7″ from a band called Rat Bastards and I got it via mailorder from MRR.
3. What’s the best cure for a hangover?
I don’t drink so I wouldn’t know, but I have heard of drinking goat urine.
4. What’s on your rider?
Vegan food, kombucha, water, tea, beer.
5. How do you get ready for a live show?
Just go out and tear it up, no thinking about it.
6. What’s your favourite song to play live?
Everybody’s Down or Dead Plane.
7. What’s your guilty pleasure?
The Beverly Center.
8. Who would win in a fight, a stoat or a goat and why?
Well, the goat had the goat urine, so I say the goat.
9. What was the last album you bought?
Deep Wound anthology LP, Husker Du “flip your wig” LP, F “you are an E.P.” 7″
10. If you could rid the world of one song – what would it be?
Any song by Sugar Ray.
11. Who would play you in a film based upon your life?
Ben Wolfinsohn.
12. Dead or alive. What 5 acts would you have play with you at a festival?
The Urinals, The Dils, Necros, John Wiese and Infinite Body.
13. If push comes to shove, what is your all-time favourite album?
Oooh, toss up between “Warehouse Songs and Stories” (Husker Du), “Is This My World” (Jerry’s Kids) and “Loveless” (MBV).
14. What’s your most memorable on the road story?
One time we gave a hitchhiker a ride and he ended up being a distant cousin of Randy’s. Weird!
15. If your life flashed before your eyes, what would be the highlights?
Birth, walking, The Ramones, The PCH Club, puberty, Chicago, the smell, mom, new apt.
16. What’s the best piece of advice someone has ever given you and did you take notice?
“stay awake and you will never sleep” Borgman Torst
17. If you had to leave a body part to science, what would it be?
Easy, my heart.
18. What’s the best book you’ve read and film you’ve seen in the last 6 months?
Nathaneal West “miss lonely hearts” and the princess diaries.
19. What three things could you not live without?
My records, braggs liquid aminos, and tofurkey sausage.
