20 Questions with… Those Dancing Days
Mimmi from Those Dancing Days is the lucky recepient of our 20 Questions this week – their most recent album In Our Space Hero Suits sent our man Simon Tyers into rapturous throws of delight with their quirky indie-pop. Now can they attack this feature in the same wonderous way… only time will tell…
1. Describe your sound in 3 words.
Punk as fuck
2. What was the first record you ever bought? And where did you buy it?
I think it was Spice Girls second one after my sister chewed on te first one.
3. What’s the best cure for a hangover?
Sleep
4. What’s on your rider?
The usual stuff but we also have “10 party people” on it. That has never happened though…
5. How do you get ready for a live show?
We try to get at least half an hour for our selves. You have to chill out before so that you can give all on stage.
6. What’s your favourite song to play live?
I think that “I know where you live” and “Spaceherosuits” are the most fun.
7. What’s your guilty pleasure?
Well I am a big fan of 80’s one hit wonders and one of my absolute favourite song is “Waiting for a star to fall” with Boy meet Girl.
8. Who would win in a fight, a stoat or a goat and why?
I don’t know what a stoat is but I would go for that one.
9. Who’s your favourite new band at the moment? Tell us a bit about them.
I really like the two Swedish sisters in First Aid Kit. They are kind of country/Bright Eyes and very very good!
10. Who would play you in a film based upon your life?
That would be that red haired girl in That 70’s Show.
11. Dead or alive, what 5 acts would you have play with you at a festival?
Velvet Underground, Rolling Stones, the Strokes, Babyshambles and Dolly Parton.
12. If push comes to shove, what is your all-time favourite album?
That question is from Mojo. But that would be Velvet Underground’s third album.
13. What’s your most memorable on the road story?
It has to be when we played at Reeperbahn on Molotow when we hadn’t even released a single there yet and people in the audience sang along with some of the songs.
14. If your life flashed before your eyes, what would be the highlights?
It’s all about the band right now in my head so I guess that would be it.
15. What’s the best piece of advice someone has ever given you and did you take notice?
I think it was when a friend in a band called Johnossi suggested us to sign with V2 and we did.
16. If you had to leave a body part to science, what would it be?
I would leave one of my ears, it look really wierd.
17. What’s the best book you’ve read and film you’ve seen in the last 6 months?
I haven’t read as much as I use to but I read Ronnie Woods biography and it wasn’t anything about the Faces period so that was disappointing. The best movie has to be Darjeeling Limited, very very good!
18. What threethings could you not live without?
A bed, food and tictacs.
19. Tell us a fact about yourself we probably don’t already know.
I have quite many phobias. One of them is that I have problem with people touching my ears.
20. And finally, we’d like you to make us a mix-tape. Pick five tracks with a theme of your choice.
I chose the theme one hit wonders.
1. Waiting for a star to fall – Boy Meet Girl
2. I don’t want to loose your love tonight – the Outfield
3. Forever young – Alphaville
4. Take on me – Aha
5. Goodbye horses – Q Lazzarus
