20 Questions with… Broadcast 2000
Broadcast 2000 released their debut mini player back in August, and this just proves how useless I am at keeping deadlines… Anyway, we caught up with Joe Steer AKA Broadcast 2000 to find out a bit more about the man behind the name (even if he’s not quite as funny as he thinks he is)…
1. Describe your sound in 3 words.
Tinkle, Pling…Thwack.
2. What was the first record you ever bought? And where did you buy it?
Blur – Leisure. HMV Exeter.
3. What’s the best cure for a hangover?
A good country ale. ‘Ye Olde Bastard’ or equivalent.
4. What’s on your rider?
‘Ye Olde Bastard’ or equivalent.
5. How do you get ready for a live show?
Time before shows is generally spent on mobile phone finding out how late my drummer is going to be for soundcheck.
6. What’s your favourite song to play live?
I don’t have one. It depends on if the audience are in to it or not.
7. What’s your guilty pleasure?
Televised indoor bowls. And snooker.
8. Who would win in a fight, a stoat or a goat and why?
Err. No?
9. Who’s your favourite new band at the moment? Tell us a bit about them.
Hmmm, Vampire Weekend. Terrible name, great band.
10. Who would play you in a film based upon your life?
Gwyneth Paltrow
11. Dead or alive, what 5 acts would you have play with you at a festival?
The 27 club: Brian, Jimi, Janis, Jim and Kurt. That would be quite special.
12. If push comes to shove, what is your all-time favourite album?
Depends what mood i’m in really, but probably Grace (Jeff Buckley) is my most listened to.
13. What’s your most memorable on the road story?
This one time right…we were on the road…and it was crazy and mad and like, we had loads of fun and stuff.
14. If your life flashed before your eyes, what would be the highlights?
This interview, for sure.
15. What’s the best piece of advice someone has ever given you?
Life is pretty simple: You do some stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works.
16. If you had to leave a body part to science, what would it be?
The weird nobble on the back of my head.
17. What’s the best book you’ve read and film you’ve seen in the last 6 months?
I haven’t been in reading mode much recently but I read The Curious Incident of the Dog.. on holiday which I really enjoyed. Best films recently Juno/No country for old men.
18. What three things could you not live without?
Food, water, air. ha ha.
19. Tell us a fact about yourself we probably don’t already know.
I can blow air past the side of my left eye.
