Nedry Tour Diary // Day 7 – 10
Carlisle – The Brickyard
First show with 65dos tonight and we were all very excited. We had heard them through the floorboards in Leeds the night before and it sounded epic. Carlisle turned out to be a beatiful, red brick space with a fantastic set of citadels, castles and cathedrals. The Brickyard however was a little less spectacular. Nontheless, great lighting and a pretty large soundsystem made it very exciting. The was a bit of a strange crowd at carlisle but there were some solid people there and people really enjoyed our set. It was a good start to the tour and a nice ‘warm up’ kinda of vibe which was nice.
Glasgow – Oran Mor
Oran Mor, the furthest north we would travel for this tour, has to one of the nicest venues we have come across and if it didn’t the slowest elevator in the history of venues it would be the best place in the world. We played our socks off and were upgraded to main support for the night which was ace. At the end we enjoyed a nice whiskey from the selection of 100 odd Scottish Whiskeys. Hanging with 65dos and their crew was great and it was a shock to learn some of their stories. Ayu was delighted that she had her first real ‘Scottish Whiskey’ but it turned out that 65dos are firm whiskey drinkers and were more interested in the brands…. ‘Scottish Whiskey’ wasn’t sufficient!!! It was followed up by an amazing Travelodge with hot water…. HOT WATER… yes… shower down. the days are beginning to blur into one.
Newcastle – O2 Academy2
We were staying with our friend tom in Newcastle. Newcastle on the face of it appears to have been built around St James Park… good news… we were playing fairly near it… The Academy is really nice, the main venue, spectacular! We were in room 2… little less spectacular but with a mint turbosound system that everyone enjoyed. It’s beginning to feel difficult to have anything interesting to say about the experience. I think its the joy of playing every night… it wipes you out but you end up feeling like your buzzing at the same time… its a difficult set of emotions to deal with that are with no doubt worth every day…
Other news…. Chris is a bit poorly and he had to dash to the emergency clinic to pick up some antibiotics… He can’t drink for a week which is a real shame… Simon however, is delighted and his designated driver status has been put down to a grade 2.
Birmingham – O2 Academy2
The stage and venue is epic… it was a mammoth drive from Glasgow filled with Weezer and introductions of Heavy Metal to Ayu. It turns out that she loves…. some of it…
