Nedry Tour Diary // Day 15-17

25 May 2010, 10:58

Portsmouth

Driving back down South and hoping that the sun would come out. Pretty much the order of each day for us was getting up to bright sunshine, loading the car, only to arrive at the venue to blackened skies and rain. Isn’t May meant to be half decent? Anyway, this gig was in Simon’s hometown and included another stop over at a parent’s house, the gentrification tour continued with some lovely homemade soup. We weren’t to know at the time but a small portion of home made soup was not sufficient food for an entire day with a gig at the end of it. The Wedgewood Rooms was probably the most organised show of the tour, 65dos soundchecked so quickly that they had time for a couple of games of indoor venue-badminton whilst we set up. Despite being a bit fatigued from just too few hours rest we had a great time. Our friend Seb joined the tour to take photos and generally cheer us up, his insatiable appetite was enough to keep us amused. At the merch stand, Simon continued to write out tips for Lord Bunn who was on a rubik cube crusade.

Plymouth

More rain and a long drive to a venue beneath a less than picturesque bus station wasn’t a great start to the day. Entering Cornwall to check in to our Travelodge we were also not pleased to find that it was the worst smelling hotel to date. Luckily the people putting on this show were mint and we had the pleasure of a decent food budget. We spent a lot of the day walking to the prettier part of town (the Hoe). The smallest stage on the tour was an interesting challenge for us, but once the audience ventured down to the stage edge to watch us we really enjoyed ourselves. Massive appreciation go to the whole 65 team who somehow managed to make a very difficult space (holes in the stage and broken amps etc) work very well.

London

Koko was a massive contrast to the night before, the sheer scale of it was breathtaking, the stage was probably the size of the venue in Plymouth. Arriving in London after a few weeks away was a little strange, but maybe that’s just Camden for you, Loops Haunt had to catch the tube there, poor guy. A long drive and then a sprint from the car with all our equipment to avoid parking tickets was how we got started. Technicalities aside, this was easily the biggest crowd we’ve ever played to and some of the best lighting and sound we’ve experienced. The tour ended with bubbly and cake with Monotreme’s Kim and some of team 65dos. We hope to see them again soon, they headed for Ireland, we were all exhausted and a little grateful we didn’t have to follow!
