Nedry Tour Diary // Day 11-14
Sheffield
This was the biggest venue on the tour and an important one for 65dos, it was their homecoming! Birmingham the night before was a great show for us, with levels of sub bass that we’d previously never had the luxury of exploiting and we were on a massive high. Some absolutely quality vegetarian food set us up for the day and we nervously strolled around the corridors of the Octagon before playing. Chris managed to soak his clothes with an emergency pre-gig shower fail and had the pleasure of squelching around the massive stage. 65dos filled the arena with a huge show that their family and friends must have been proud of. After-gig drinks and fun were had by all, we hit the local pub with 65dos, Loops Haunt and the tour crew, everyone is so approachable and friendly that this now just seems like the norm, which it really isn’t for us.
Nottingham
Nottingham was a show we’d been looking forward to, it’s a great city with a big student population and some legendary venues. The Rescue Rooms was located a mere two minutes walk from the uni campus, which allowed us to eat cheap food at one of the many student pubs. It was a busy day, Ayu and Chris ventured to BBC Nottingham for an interview, Matt took care of other interviewing duties. The show was an absolute blast. We were on about 10 minutes after the doors opened and to our disbelief saw an almost full venue. One of the best of the tour for sure. Afterwards we went to some ridiculously named bar (Spanky’s? Spunky’s? Wanky’s? who knows?), Paul and Joe from 65 were DJing and we got stuck into some serious drinking and dancing (led by Ayu) before staying on the 9th floor of Nottingham’s finest Travelodge. The days continue to blur, but we will look forward to a return to Nottingham in the future.
Bristol
We drove into Bristol with Portishead pumping on our car’s cassette deck, yes it was a stereotype, but we felt we had a responsibility to deliver in Bristol, the home of so much amazing electronic music. The Trinity is an incredible venue, a beautiful converted church with a fantastic sound system brought in especially for the night. What are we going to do when we go back to playing small clubs and venues? We’ve been spoilt rotten on this tour. It was obvious that 65dos were really excited about filling this space, we’ve added it to our list of future ambitions. The show went really well, family and friends of ours were there and we really felt a connection with the crowd, one that we’ll not forget for a long time. It was also another opportunity to bathe in the euphoria of 65dos playing ‘Tiger Girl’. We’ve watched them pretty much every night of the tour and it’s been an education to see how they adapt to different conditions, they never seem to have an ‘off’ night.
Cambridge
Everyone knows Cambridge is beautiful, it’s just a fact, Ayu is getting to visit parts of the UK she’s never seen and the rest of us are occasionally experiencing a bit of national pride when we come across a particularly pretty bit of scenery. Today is no exception. Saying that though, the Junction is in one of the less picturesque parts of the town, however we did get a chance to venture in for some dinner and learnt a valuable lesson – never eat a big meal minutes before going on stage! Also, never wear multiple layers of clothing under hot lighting! The loud sound and low lighting fit really well with our style and the set went really well.
