Fanfarlo – What HAVE you been listening to?
As Fanfarlo’s brilliant album Reservoir finally hit the shops this week (I got my lovingly made special edition via Rough Trade yesterday!), the band wanted to drop us a line and let us know what’s been played on the bus over the past couple of months.
Whilst passing time on the tour bus, their senses were peaked by the following…
Early start, in the van after breakfast:
Dustin O’Halloran – Piano Solos (album). Something to ease us into the day.
Enroute to the venue:
When we weren’t watching Nosferatu, Educating Rita or threatening to watch a L. Ron Hubbard documentary, we chose:
Abe Vigoda – Skeleton (album)
Beach Boys – Pet Sounds (album) – always turned into a singalong.
What Emre, our driver and sound engineer, listened to in the front of the van:
Metallica – …And Justice For All (on tape)
Faith No More – two albums on a C-90 tape…”The Real Thing” and “Angel Dust” I think. Justin was the source of these tapes.
Any local radio station playing 60s soul, pop, Spector, Motown…it’s easier to drive when you’re not headbanging.
Before the show:
I seem to remember Scritti Politti “Wood Beez”, Depeche Mode “New Life”, Burt Bacharach, M.I.A. “Paper Planes”..random upbeat tunes. Some Townes Van Zandt made it into the mix.
Post gig drive back to the hotel:
The Invisible – s/t (album) Played loud! Turned the van into a mobile disco.
Note: When he wasn’t reading, Justin listened to nothing but black metal via his laptop. We could hear it bleeding from his headphones.
Look out for TLOBF’s review of Reservoir next week!
