All Apologies: Mr. Silla
Musician, visual artist and former Múm vocalist Sigurlaug Gisladóttir has been a mainstay of the tightly-knit Icelandic music scene for more than a decade - much of that as part of solo-project-come-collective Mr. Silla. Ahead of her Iceland Airwaves set - as part of Best Fit’s showcase - Silla takes our soul-searching Q&A.
What's your present state of mind and being?
Slightly hopped up on green tea finding things to clean around the house so as not to sit down and answer my emails.
What's the most overrated virtue?
Modesty, or rather false modesty. Know your worth babas and don't be afraid to wear it proudly.
What one thing have you learnt from your parents?
How to be an excellent host. One of my absolute favorite things is to have friends over for naps and food.
What the most desirable quality you look for in romantic partner?
Communication skills.
What and where was the greatest meal you ever ate?
It might have been a salted cod pizza my friend Bjössi made for me and Númi after we all went swimming. I was sceptical at the idea in the beginning and then it turned out so amazing I dont think I have ever felt as crazy a foodhigh as after eating that meal. Mindblowing. I mean its probably ten years ago now and I still sometimes think about it.
What's your most treasured possession?
My health
What was the last dream you had about?
Pizza.
If you could say something to your 15-year-old self, what would it be?
Get to it. What are you waiting for? Also stop listening to Creed you psychopath.
You’re playing at Iceland Airwaves this year - our favourite festival in the world! Which other artist playing the festival would you absolutely love to collaborate with?
Cola boyy! Totally obsessed over "Have You Seen Her" earlier this year. What a song!
And finally, who would you most like to apologise to and why?
I don't know that I would like to apologise to anyone. Sometimes I feel like apologising to my liver but not right now thankfully. Hard at work preparing to play you all some new stuff from my upcoming album. Very excited to share it!
