What sound do the atoms of two wildly creative minds make when they collide?

A cinematic explosion of a hundred differing influences apparently, each erupting, forming a marbled insanity. Light to the touch but dense as if it's about to swallow the world whole.

The idea of a JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown collaboration was teased last year, and first came to fruition at this years SXSW. Since, the discussion of what this would sound like has been prickling across hip-hop's pages. The delivered project, Scaring The Hoes, is a compilation of wicked, synaptic beats bleeding together in the more welcoming moments, but for the most part this is a project that deals in one thing and one thing only – frantic energy.

The first glimpse into this wonderland of unconventional came from "Lean Beef Patty", a glitching, garage-led storm which found Peggy reeling off a list of bugbears, most predominantly Twitter-twat Elon Musk. Sitting further back for his verse, Brown still sparkles with his maniacal wit, and its here he stays for most of Scaring The Hoes.

But before you even get to hitting play on this long-awaited collaboration, the tracklist teases the furor that awaits. Across the feast of weird and wonderful satire ("Steppa Pig", "Jack Harlow Combo Meal") comes a sticky introduction to the comedy and reality of these two crazed scientists of rap. Over its 14 tracks – but 36 minute run-time – things bend and break, as they taunt you into almost following suit.

Samples abound (including the Kelis-heavy "FENTANYL TESTER"), Scaring often feels more like a mixtape showcasing Peggy's inimitable skills as a producer, but it's the addition of Brown's frenetic flow that elevates the patchwork quilt. It's his spiky wit and tonation which delivers a cargo-load of personality needed to spark the frenzy.

The triumphant "BURFICT!" and "GOD LOVES YOU" blaze to life, while the breakbeat-heavy "Orange Juice Jones" slickly acts as a vehicle for Brown's bars (with a rare hook to boot: "We all gettin' money, rain, sleet, snow, or when it's sunny"). "JACK HARLOW COMBO MEAL" is a jazz-tinged cross-hair at raps new poster boy, while the titular track is a wild bombast tirading against their very own creation ("How the fuck we supposed to make money off this shit?"). As everything unfolds, it often feels like tuning through a radio, with bars and beats appearing and disappearing in the flow, searching for something that doesn't exist because rarely has anything this rampantly creative been on the airwaves.

“Shut Yo Bitch Ass Up x Muddy Waters”’s is a lyrical storm. “These rappers faker than Andy Kaufman / Truman Show up with the truth” with a nod to Jim Carrey’s portrayal of the comedic mastermind which spotlights Peggy's lyrical play, which when it emerges from the maelstrom cuts daggers.

Certainly, if the rumour of these two names collaborating set your ears to salivating then you're in for a treat. By the end of "WHERE YA GET YA COKE FROM" you're thrown back into the mix, ready to ride or die with these two wide-eyed minds. However, if you're a casual onlooker then you may find the abrasive nature of its twists and turns a difficult rope to climb – just watch out, Brown and Peggy will most likely be at the top with a pair of scissors and a maniacal smile.
