Franc Moody have kept their foot firmly on the accelerator for their second album. Into The Ether is the perfect autumn storm to combat the emotional drought at the end of a long, dry summer.

There's a flawless continuity through the first half, as we move from the strident and sexy title-track into the shoulder bopping electronica of “Mass Appeal.” It still boasts the expertly tight vocals heard on their 2020 album, Dream in Colour, but now with a sweeping orchestral layer that opens up the beat. It's not like you should try searching for a deeper meaning though – just enjoy the expanse of this album and let the slapping bass wash over you.

“Raining in LA” is spliced in two, exploring the emotional layers of homesickness. On one side there’s the excitement of being away from normality, and on the other, a wholesome sadness of missing a part of yourself. Like a security blanket, stained with sleep and worn away with love, it reminds us that even when home is “miles away,” it will always be there. With Groovejet-style dinky synths, we are left in a warm, upbeat place, not a lonely one (“I've never felt so close to you right now when I've never been so far.”)

Despite still oozing with groove, the second half seems sparser, giving the listener space to breathe. It did take me a couple of listens to be able to define all of the songs, as they share such a strong voice. Like the similar-sounding Jungle, Franc Moody have created a mighty magical foundation on which to build on. “In Transit” concludes the album with a darker, pulsating beat that highlights their tangible enthusiasm for life (“keep moving on / never gonna stop.”)

Franc Moody have crafted an album of longevity that will certainly beat the clock of pop. Into The Ether will get you out of a funk, and although it may not be the first dance at a wedding, it could well be the last one that sends everyone home with aching cheeks and dancing feet.
