On The Juice Vol. III, Emotional Oranges are at their most progressive yet
"The Juice Vol.III"
Back with their third volume of The Juice, The Juice Vol. III the soulful R&B duo continue to quench thirst with ripe euphoric beats and the warming partnership of A and V’s addictive vocals.
Drenched with odes to 90’s kicks, middle-eastern inspired dancehall vibrations and intense bassy strums, the 8-track record is concise with just about everything you could desire. The alliance between them exhibits the complimentary style of the LA based duo – a harmonious distinction of rich male tones with crisp female chirps.
Experimenting with The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air style 90’s grooves in “Slide All Night,” the duo prove that their experimentation coinage isn’t just another loose genre term. Whilst their well-known sound sticks around, artist progression is in full flow, “Petty” is a certified head-nodder which captures V take on a slick rap verse with an induction of seductive humour, as she croons “Shit, straight out the Goodfellas / Bring me 'round your momma now she screamin' out 'Oh Mashallah'.”
Becoming the epitome of late night ‘after’s’ music, “Devotion” is hypnotic with infusions of celestial synths, undertone beats and glimmers of tropical guitar riffs – the medicine for anyone looking for three minutes to unwind. Picking up the pace, “Bounce” is undoubtedly the lead single of the album, encompassing everything that creates the perfect Emotional Oranges track. From a perfect musical hook to artist defining characteristics, the track runs with infectious energy coming in the form of manipulated vocals – demanding the listener with “I said bounce / I need cash in large amounts.”
Perhaps not a feature-length album, The Juice Vol. III is short but sweet. And whilst many artists pinch bits and pieces from influences to enhance their creative flow, it’s clear the pair make a conscious effort to create music that is wholeheartedly unique, with no notable influences in sight. A refreshing collection of tracks which place Emotional Oranges at their most progressive yet, it’s exciting to think what their next venture holds.
