When Skins used to be on (it’s still actually running but the target audience still watching it probably aren’t allowed to use the internet without parental guidance so are not likely to be reading this), I had just moved to Bristol.
The Bristolian life I led was a far cry from the one those beautiful teens indulged in. There weren’t house parties every night of the week, no MDMA on tap, no crazed psychologists who end up killing your friends, and no, er, Cat Stevens musical medleys. Instead watching the programme was more like playing a video game version of Google Streetview.
Mount Kimbie‘s new video for ‘Carbonated’ is a lot like this, depicting the life we all wish we were living but that most of us quite simply aren’t. Designer clothes, designer haircuts and designer drugs galore; the video shows a night out sequenced in reverse – from the morning after to the night before, culminating in some hip guy getting lucky. Jeez, that never happened to me either!
Oh and no, your connection isn’t lagging – the start of the vid is meant to sound like that.
‘Carbonated’ is taken from the duo’s Carbonated EP, as well as featuring on their debut album Crooks & Lovers. The EP also includes remixes of the title track by Airhead and Peter Van Hoesen and two other new numbers, ‘Baves Chords’ and ‘Flux’.
