Tom Aspaul returns with an upbeat bop about feeling down
Tom Aspaul's made a name for himself as one of the most effervescently talented figures in leftfield pop, with writing credits for Aluna George, Kylie Minogue, Little Boots and Charlotte OC but it's been almost two years since he dropped anything as a solo artist.
Aspaul returns today with "Going Down" - a three minute blast of pop positivity that related sadness and loss. "The lyrics are quite subversive and tell a totally different story," explains Aspaul, "dealing with grief and depression in a way that I’ve never really touched on before in my music."
George Reid of AlunaGeorge helped fine tune the song which was spiritually informed by the likes of Kacey Musgraves, The Cardigans, Empire of the Suna and ABBA. "I like to think it’s got a country twang to it - I listened to a lot of Kacey Musgraves way before Minogue went to Nashville and Gaga released Joanne," says Aspaul.
