Grace Savage delivers a sultry pop take on The Cardigans' "My Favourite Game"
Grace Savage, listed as one of ELLE magazine's 100 most inspiring women, started out her music career as an award-winning beatboxer.
To the delight of many, the four-time UK beatboxing champion turned her hand to singing, delivering debut EP Savage Grace last year. The follow-up, Control Freak, comes later this year, and "My Favourite Game" is the welcome second taste of its contents, following recent single "Headlights".
"My Favourite Game" is a cover of The Cardigans' 1998 classic, brought up to the minute twenty years after the original release with Savage's sultry vocal and slick pop stylings. Her nonchalent, alluring delivery sets the familiar lyrics afloat against a backdrop of swirling, magnetic synths, keeping the original's taut feel despite the entirely modern revamp. Where The Cardigans' version hums with obvious urgency, Savage switches it up to serve us an immersive cocktail of longing and regret.
