"Keep Me Up" is another dark pop gem from rising star Charlotte Lawrence
With "Keep Me Up" Charlotte Lawrence once again proves her dark prop chops with a song that simmers with heartbreak.
Charlotte Lawrence has had an interesting creative journey, first working with Gary Lightbody and Johnny McDaid of Snow Patrol, whilst also performing with the likes of The Dixie Chicks and EDM megastar Kaskade. She also teamed up with Sasha Sloan and Nina Nesbitt for Spotify Single "Psychopath" earlier this year, yet despite her extensive phonebook of famous family friends, "Keep Me Up" once again proves her individual talent and shining pop potential.
"Keep Me Up" is a glorious dark pop earworm that navigates through uncertainty and betrayal with haunting ease. It's full of tantalising hooks that layer up to create a really strong foundation for Lawrence's dreamy delivery that is as accusatory as it is full of pain.
Describing the songwriting process, Lawrence says "I write easier about sad emotions. I think it's so cool to have an upbeat song with dark lyrics. If you tap into an emotion then you can write a whole story. No matter what you're going through it's imporant to take risks with music. I never want to play it safe.”
The song is taken from one of her two upcoming EPs which are due for release this summer. The first is called Young and will contain a collection of sweet pop songs, whilst its partner EP is called Reckless and explores Lawrence's darker side.
