Jens Lekman – Become Someone Else's (Best Fit Session)
Jens Lekman remains an artist that stands as one of the musical touchstones of The Line of Best Fit so it’s safe to say we’re somewhat enamoured of his latest record I Know What Love Isn’t. Locating its themes around the failure of love and relationships – and subverting the very notion of a ‘break-up’ record – Lekman has produced a modern classic that brilliantly channels his freakishly high quota of talent.
We talked to Jens back in August about the new record and shortly afterwards took him aside for a Best Fit Session. He chose ‘Become Someone Else’s’ which recalls his time living in Australia. “When the Melbourne summer is endless/And the warm wind leaves you helpless,” he sings, “Life’s too good to become someone else’s.” We filmed Jens in his hotel room at the K-West, which is rapidly becoming London’s modern-day equivalent of California’s Continental Hyatt during the seventies – albeit with a better sense of feng shui and hotel room art.
