Dreamers sum up their tongue-in-cheek youthful credo as succinctly as any band on “Drugs”, the band’s fiery ode to conspicuous consumption and proudly not thinking for yourself. “Lost in the clouds / Coming down, searching for the next high / Kids in the dirt / Scavengers hungry for a good time”, singer Nick Wold bellows.

They hardly letup throughout This Album Does Not Exist, constantly striving to go (and get) higher and make every moment count. Melodies are simple and sugary, but played with such urgency and dramatic flare that they frankly often skew more punk than pop.

The Brooklyn band might owe some royalty money for the Walk the Moon-indebted “Never Too Late to Dance’, but there’s no denying the song’s last call urgency is a blast. “Wolves (You Got Me)” echoes shades of Phoenix and gives listeners somewhat of a respite as Dreamers crank the dial back briefly from an 11 to a nine.

With a late August release date, it’s clear that Dreamers understand their marketplace perfectly. No band is better suited for helping you soak up those last few precious days of summer. They may well wind up as the next rising band whose music soundtracks the advertisements of faceless corporations attempting to reel in millenials (a word the band uses to describe themselves on “Drugs”), but This Album Does Not Exist is so bubbly and uncalculated that it’s hard to be too cynical about Dreamers.
