Alice Boman plays debut UK show at Servant Jazz Quarters in London
Responsible for one of our favourite tracks of the year, Alice Boman came to Dalston’s Servant Jazz Quarters last night to showcase her subtle songwriting talent.
Shrouded in the basement room, the young Swede made the most of the surroundings, her fragile vocals weaving tales of love and loss amongst intuitive chord patterns, tinged with blues-inspiration.
Her writing and bare performance style sits Boman alongside the likes of Brooklyn’s Eddi Front and WALL; the latter becoming particularly reminiscent thanks to the introduction of simple pre-recorded drum patterns.
A whirring electronic organ shares the stage, but it is the piano that helped to recreate a spine-tinglingly gorgeous rendition of ‘Waiting‘, while a new track ‘What’, with its gentle riff, hinted at a growing depth to her work.Early days of course for the endearing young singer, but the short set already has us captivated.
