U.S store Target refuses to sell Beyoncé's new album because it was released online first
American discount retailers Target struck up an exclusive deal with Beyoncé back in 2011 to sell her previous record 4. But now it looks like they won’t be stocking her surprise new album at all, with the company saying it goes against their sales policies.
“When a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections,” Target spokesperson Erica Julkowski says in a statement to Billboard. ”While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyoncé in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats.”
The self-titled effort was released on iTunes last Friday and has since sold over 600,000 copies.
