Stream the Keepsake EP from Slow Skies, exclusively on Best Fit
Karen Sheridan and Conal Herron, together known as Slow Skies, blew so many minds with their Close EP last year that they were plucked from Ireland's shores to tour with some massive names.
They opened for the likes of St.Vincent, Cat Power, Youth Lagoon and San Fermin; James Vincent McMorrow, was similarly impressed, and Slow Skies open for him 5 October at O2 Shepherds Bush Empire.
Their new Keepsake EP continues that gossamer folk output which drew so much acclaim last year; expect finespun guitar melodies, the crackling tones of Sheridan on vox and thumping hollow beats. This is still decisively flecked with Slow Skies' nuanced touch, but there's a darker, obsidian seam running rich through the core. There's a looming darkness. It doesn't quite encompass every facet of the EP, but it's always there, lurking in the bass or thinly veiled behind Sheridan's voice.
Karen Sheridan had this to say about the EP:
"Keepsake is a collection of songs we recorded over the past year, mostly in Conal's home in Donegal. It's been a longer process than we anticipated but we really wanted to keep working on them until we felt they sounded the best we could make them sound.
"It's named after the instrumental track "Keepsake" because I think it's the heart of this EP. It's about loss, holding your memories close but also allowing yourself to move on."
