Sign this petition nominating Kanye West to curate the 2015 Venice Art Biennale
The Venice Biennale is one of the art world’s biggest contemporary events, hosted every two years. With the bi-annual international exhibition recently drawing to a close, a (rather hopeful) online petition has popped up nominating Kanye West to be curator for the 2015 edition.
The Biennale committee appointed Italian artist Massimiliano Gioni to helm proceedings for the 2013 instalment, but those behind this petition (aptly-named #BiennalYe) are looking for something different next time.
“With contemporary art lingering confused in a mannerist phase, we believe West is the best person to show us the way forward and to explain, agitate, and situate artistic production in its current cultural and global setting,” the petition reads. “As such, we believe West should be invited to curate and direct the art world’s biggest bi-annual international exhibition.”
The reasoning given for West’s nomination includes his art school background, “longstanding history of deep and sincere engagement with art” and “close ties with fashion and commerce”. “We feel damn sure he would put on a decent exhibition, and give a stagnant art world a significant kick with his Yeezys.”
