Poland's Unsound Festival ban use of cameras
Polish leftfield music showcase, Unsound Festival have outlined a firm stance on use of cameras and other recording devices ahead of this year’s event.
A statement from the festival organisers say that while they will not stop gig-goers from bringing cameras or phones to the premises, they will enforce action if audience members are found to be recording artists. Photo passes will also not be available to media personnel, with the event transmitted live by NTS Radio.
This follows an ever increasing debate on the fan-recording of shows, one brought to the table by the likes of Savages, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and even Beyonce.
Check out a segment of the official statement below:
“Unsound is imposing a ban on photographs and filming of live shows as part of its 2013 INTERFERENCE theme - no photo passes will be given to media, and audience members should resist the temptation to put cameras or mobile phones into action. The idea behind this ban is not to denigrate photographers or cast aspersions upon the desire to take snapshots of one’s own life, but rather an experiment in resisting contemporary habits as they pertain to instant documentation, “sharing,” and lived experience.”
Unsound Festival runs from 13-20 October in Krakow, with Juliana Barwick, Mykki Blanco, Forest Swords and more on the bill.
