MTV say that Daft Punk's Colbert Report no-show was their own decision
Just when we thought we’d got to the bottom of the Daft Punk/Colbert Report saga, another fork in the road appear – with MTV now going on record as saying that the no-show was nothing to do with them.
Previously, the U.S TV show’s host Stephen Colbert had said that Daft Punk were forced to cancel their scheduled appearance last week after a contractual agreement with MTV regarding their (rumoured) upcoming performance at the 2013 MTV VMA Awards.
Now, however, the VMAs executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic has stated that this was not entirely the case. Ignjatovic is quoted as telling The Hollywood Reporter: “We don’t put restrictions on anyone. I just think that we’re talking to them about a moment and then things sort of change. I would not describe that as MTV putting restrictions on people — it was up to that artist and their management what they wanted to do.”
Neither Daft Punk nor Stephen Colbert have responded to these new developments.
