James Blake album experiences 2500% post-Mercury Prize sales increase
Having picked up this year’s Mercury Prize trophy earlier this week, James Blake has seen his album sales for Overgrown rapidly increase on the back of the feat.
Blake followed last year’s winners Alt-J, winning the award for his recent LP Overgrown, pipping the likes of David Bowie, Arctic Monkeys and Disclosure to the prize. Amazon UK have now revealed that online sales for the record have shot up by 2500% following the event ceremony on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, fellow nominees Savages and Villagers have seen a 200% sales increase, while Laura Mvula’s debut album Sing To The Moon has risen by 150%.
Overgrown was released back in April, originally reaching number 8 in the UK Albums Chart. At the time, Blake lamented the sales figures, telling The Guardian: “The pre-sales on the new album are hideous. Hideous. Everyone’s waiting for it to leak”.
