Italian label release compilation of silent music, featuring John Lennon, Andy Warhol, Orbital & more
Alga Marghen, an avant-garde label based in Italy, are set to issue a record of complete (or mostly) silence – all in the name of art.
Sounds of Silence will compile compositions by everyone from John Lennon, Sly & The Family Stone, Crass, Afrika Bambaataa, Orbital and Andy Warhol, but surprisingly not silent music pioneer John Cage.
A press release describes the LP as “an anthology of some of the most intriguing silent tracks in recording history”, featuring pieces that are as equally “performative, political, critical, abstract, poetic” as they are “cynical, technical absurd”.
The record can be pre-ordered here and even comes with instructions of how to play it loud.
