Daft Punk to play MTV VMA awards, cancel Colbert Report appearance due to contractual dispute
Last night, Daft Punk were scheduled to make a very rare TV appearance on The Colbert Report. Seems like such appearances will remain a rarity, as the band were forced to pull out at last minute.
It turns out that the French electronic pair were prevented from performing live on the satire show due to an existing agreement with MTV, for whom they will perform at this year’s VMA Awards.
Colbert explained the mess-up:
“Here’s the story: it’s a true story. We booked click and clack over here about a month ago. This network is owned by Viacom, which is also the owner of MTV… Apparently, Daft Punk are going to make a surprise appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards. Don’t tell anyone, because fun fact: no one told me until two hours ago.”
Nonetheless, it does mean you’ll be able to see ‘Get Lucky’ live for the first time on 25 August, when the MTV VMAs are held.
