France's darkwave pioneer Colder shares new single "Many Colours" from his first LP in a decade
French producer Colder announced his first record in almost 10 years Many Colours recently, and is now sharing its title track on Best Fit.
Speaking about the track, Colder - aka Marc Nygen Tan - says:
"'Many Colours' is the first track which has been recorded for this album. It's mixing on one side some rather angular, austere and dark electronic arrangements and on the other some brighter, more colourful simple piano chords that kind of float on top of it. Playing with these two opposite poles left plenty of space for the vocals to sit in between them. Building the vocal line around a combination of words which don't make sense at first, like a coded message, pushed the song in a more abstract and visual place. It's this particular balance of sounds, beats and lyrics which is driving not only the rest of the record but also its whole visual identity, artwork, videos…"
Although featuring many calling-card habits of Colder, "Many Colours" sees the experimentalist pursue other strands too - it's a heady commingling of pop motifs on top of cloudburst beats, with shimmering drums rattling against a proto-house bassline. Colder coos covertly from the shadows, echoing Depeche's Mode's Dave Gahan in moments, and although there are moments of glistening pop to gnaw on, there's still an abundance of abyssal darks.
Many Colours is out 6 November via Bataille. It follows 2005's Heat.
