Amazon CD and vinyl buyers to receive digital downloads for retrospective purchases
Online market place, Amazon have launched a new service allowing its customers who have ordered CD and vinyl from the website to be eligible to receive an additional digital download – both in the future and retrospectively.
The new service, entitled AutoRip, had previously been spoken about but has now been confirmed, offering buyers a digital version of the music they’ve ordered. This will begin a few days before they receive their orders and it can even be backdated to as early as 1999.
CEO and founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos said:
“What would you say if you bought CDs, vinyl or even cassettes from a company 14 years ago and then 14 years later that company licensed the rights from the record companies to give you the MP3 versions of those albums and then, to top it off, did that for you automatically? Well starting today, it’s available to all of our Amazon.co.uk customers – past, present and future at no cost. We love these opportunities to do something extra for our customers.”
Amazon were promoted to leading music retailer after taking over HMV in 2012.
