18-24 year olds behind recent vinyl revival, shows new report
It’s official: the target audience of vinyl fetishists is now longer the jaded middle-aged man as seen in High Fidelity. No, it seems those pushing the recent resurgence of sales for the 12″ format is actually the youth of today.
As Music Week report, music fans between the ages of 18-24 are currently buying more vinyl than anybody else. A recent study showed that 14% of that age group said they had purchased a record in the past month, compared to 9% of 25-34 year olds and 5% of those aged 35-44.
The same report also states that 85% of all people surveyed stated independent outlets to be their preferred choice, which is good news considering Record Store Day 2013 is being held tomorrow (20 April).
