Las Vegas' self-described "musician, comedian, singer, rapper, twerker, chef, writer, filmmaker, tumblr, skinny fat ass" Shamir has unveiled his mind-blowing clip for "On The Regular".
It verges upon bubblegum-rap - chances are PC Music are pretty envious of this ditty - and mines a vein of what NPR call "post-closet black overground" that the likes of Mykki Blanco, Azealia Banks and Le1f wield. Shamir's "On The Regular" is rife with cowbells, Fisher Price toys, hallucinogenic AV-isms and thwomping pop hooks. It's deliciously bratty - "Don't try me I'm not a free sample/step to me and you will be handled/see that's my crown on the mantle/and if you try to touch me there will be scandal..." he coos in the breakdown.
Shamir was raised on Islam and punk, and his resulting electro-bop experiments quickly drew attention from Godmode, who put out Shamir's Northtown EP; their professional relationship was short-lived however, as he's just inked a deal with XL, which is highly exciting.
