Listen: Groeni - "Pardons" [Premiere]
Wellington, New Zealand’s Groeni is back with “Pardons”, the first tease of his forthcoming sophomore effort Hewn, premiering today on Best Fit.
Alexander Green makes music that could be loosely classified as electronic: skittering synthetic rhythms pave the way for the occasional warped, unidentifiable noise not possible with traditional instruments. But “Pardons” is by no means sterile.
There’s an organic quality here, something vague and unprocessed seeping through the ghostly hisses. Perhaps it’s the subtle incorporation of resampled field recordings; one piece of the beat recalls the sound of water dropping on concrete blown to IMAX proportions. Whatever they may be, all of these sounds come together beautifully in Groeni’s masterful hands.
Speaking about the track, Green said: "'Pardons' is an apology, one of the main themes of the EP. It deals with self-sabotage and reflects on how I could have gone about something differently, revealing myself as a coward and offering comfort and explanation to someone that I had hurt."
Hewn is set for release (limited vinyl and limited handmade cassette edition - both including download codes) on 24 February via Project: Mooncircle.
