Watch: Fuck Art, Let's Dance! - "Atlas" [Premiere]
Fuck Art, Let's Dance! are a Hamburg indie-dance troupe with grand ambitions and a fine LP in the form of Atlas.
In our 7/10 review, we described the record as a serrated antithesis to static gig-goers and foot shufflers:
"The band are helping champion a new wave of sound from Germany – or at least to British ears anyway. This couldn’t be more fun, or lack more pretence – it tends to get a bit formulaic structurally, but when you’ve got a good thing going, don’t mess with it. Rallying against “gig zombies” appears to be the impetus for Atlas’ creation – it’s the same reason Fuck Art, Let’s Dance! are here in the first place – and Hamburg’s finest hit their mark with aplomb, giving us some rapier-sharp indie-pop that makes your limbs flail like a ragdoll trying to balance on a jackhammer."
The video for the title track, "Atlas", arrives as a gorgeous AV treat, then. Although landing some time after the record's initial release, FA,LD! manage to still retain their incisive aesthetic. It combines capoeira-like dance-fighting with Chinese New Year vibes. Or, in layman's terms, two different martial artists fight a dragon.
Speaking about the track's themes and the video's production, the band said:
"Atlas’ theme is about despair. An insoluble situation where the only end is your own demise. The fight between good and evil was the perfect choice to represent the essence of the song. A determined woman fighting a vicious red dragon, which is responsible for taking the life of a dearly loved person. We’re all fans of 70’s asian martial arts flicks, so we immediately settled with this idea and got to work with Miguel Vasquez and Il Kang, our directors. They’ve assembled a great team and we’re proud of the result to kick off a great 2015."
Atlas is out now on Audiolith.
